October 2025
We’ve received a quote to repair the fencing around the main pond. This will also include adjusting the gate closure system so it closes more gently, reducing the force of the swing. The quote will be discussed at the AGM in October 2025
[update 25/10/2025] A working party took place on 25 October 2025, attended by four plot holders (including two committee members). During the session, we were shown how quickly the pond clears once the wire mesh filter is brushed clean - demonstrating how important regular maintenance is.
The gate itself has already been stabilised by a plot holder, but the gate closer still needs to be reconnected, as required under our insurance policy. Until this is completed, access to the pond area remains locked for safety reasons.
There is currently a layer of scum on the pond surface, which plot holders are helping to clear periodically. To make this easier, the Society will purchase a long-handled brush and pond net. These will be kept near the pond for shared use, allowing the mesh filter to be cleaned safely without entering the pond area.
We also reviewed the entrance to the pond area and discussed installing paving slabs with anti-slip tape, along with a support handle to help members collect water safely.
[update 07/11/2025] We have requested quotes for the fence maintenance and will update the Society via email.
[10/11/2025] Yesterday, pavers were put down around the gate area of the pond. We still need to apply anti slip tape to help prevent accidents.

A second pond area, located near the car park at the bottom of the plots, has also been identified as needing fencing for safety. A quote for this work has been obtained and will be reviewed at the AGM in October 2025.
[update 25/10/2025] A working party was held on 25 October 2025, attended by members of the committee and the current plot holder. The plot holder kindly talked us through the history of the area, highlighting previous work and the issues that remain.
It was agreed that we would seek a quote from fencing suppliers to ensure the area can be made safe and compliant with our insurance requirements. In the meantime, the plot holder has taken steps to secure the pond area as robustly as possible until permanent fencing is installed.
[update 07/11/2025] We have requested quotes for the new fence area and will update the Society via email.

(October 2025 delivery)
We’re preparing for the next central manure delivery for the honesty system, but first the area needs a good clear-out and some repair work to make it safe and accessible. Volunteers with shovels, barrows, and strong arms will be very welcome! We will add a working party event to the events page when it has been arranged.
07/11/2025 - successful working party completed. Manure delivered. Please don’t take from the manure pile until w/c: 10/11/25025.
10/11/2025 - You can now take manure from the pile but please take it from the front of the pile and remember to cover it over when you’ve finished.

27/10/2025 At the October 2025 AGM, it was noted that some internal plot paths are becoming neglected. This may be because not all plot holders are aware of which paths they’re responsible for maintaining.
To address this, the committee is reviewing the layout of the site and identifying which paths are shared between plots. Once this work is complete, we’ll share clear guidance with all plot holders to help ensure paths are safely and consistently maintained across the site.

Plans have been discussed for a central woodchip bay in the car park, but materials and siting still need final decisions. Once agreed, we’ll need hands to help build and maintain it so all plot holders can benefit when tree surgeons deliver woodchip. We have obtained a grant of just over £100 to help us with this project.
We will add a working party event to the events page when it has been arranged.[update 07/11/2025] A working party has been arranged for Saturday 22/11/2025 - please see the events page for more details.

Fire safety is an important part of looking after our site and our neighbours. We are in the process of creating the Society’s first formal fire plan to make sure everyone knows what to do and that the right equipment is available.
Windsock – A windsock should be installed to help plot holders quickly check wind direction before lighting a fire, making it easier to decide if conditions are safe.
Fire Beaters – Fire beaters should be placed in accessible locations around the site, giving everyone a simple and effective way to control small fires if needed.
New Fire Plan – We’ve contacted the local fire service and are waiting to hear back about a site visit. Their advice will guide us in creating a clear and practical plan, covering when fires are permitted, how to manage them safely, and what to do in case of an emergency.
This project will be discussed further at the AGM in October 2025.
We have received guidance from West Yorkshire Fire Service.

The main car park gate is heavy, awkward to manoeuvre, and the wheel channel often fills with stones and mud. We’re looking at solutions to make opening and closing it easier for everyone, whether that’s resurfacing the channel or investing in a more user-friendly mechanism.
A working party will be arranged shortly.
These are ideas that have been raised and are under review. Some may depend on funding, approvals, or just a few more willing helpers.
